In two more days, Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State will visit Indonesia. Approximately fifteen years ago Hillary Clinton had also visited Indonesia when accompanying her husband who was at time the US President. President Clinton’s visit at that time was one of the appreciations of the US Government of Indonesia’s success in development, and at the same time to strengthen cooperation between the two big countries. The world gave a high appreciation of the ability of the government and people of Indonesia in comprehensive and integrated development.

Three days from now, on January 15th, 2009, the Damandiri Foundation will be 13 years of age. The foundation was founded by former Indonesian president HM Soeharto and has since the beginning encouraged prosperous families to give attention and side with the poor families. The foundation’s efforts have flowed endlessly in assisting poor families by placing them as the central point of development. The poor families that are usually of low educational levels were diligently encouraged to learn to save, by providing their children with schooling, a culture that is almost impossible to carry out. Poor families and without steady work were encouraged to save and work hard.

Damandiri Foundation that was established on 15 January 1996 will be 13 years of age next week. In a series of efforts to cut the poverty chain, with the permission of the Minister of national education, since 4 years ago, has endeavored in stages to develop several senior high schools to become entrepreneurship spirit development centers for its teachers and students, especially for those from the poor families. This entrepreneurship spirit development effort is carried out without sacrificing the role and function of schools as centers for the development of intelligent students who are able to finish their academic duties with outstanding results.
